A geeky vocabulary which will help you to understand me

Domain:
It is your internet name. It is loosing it SEO relevance recently in favour of properly constructed keywords, but it is still a good practice to make it the same as your company name, mostly because it becomes usually an extenion of your email address as well. Of course if your company is called The Unbreakable Translucent Underwear I wouldn't recommend using full name. Some shorter version should be used (in this case tutu.com) as longer domains can put off your customers. Most of domain names is preceeded by 'www' and finished with extension (.com, .co.uk, .org, .eu or .net). Extensions usually describe a character or location of the website. For british website .co.uk is the best option, because .com is very popular in US, so a lot of names is already taken.

Hosting:
While domain is your internet name, the hosting server is an actual place where your website files are sitting and where domain is poitning to.

Keywords:
Words built into the website which will inform search engines what is your website about and help to categorise your website in their rankings. Some time ago keywords were invisible for web users and seen by browser only. Today all search engines are searching through the whole content of your website searching fro phrases which can be considered as an keyword. How does they do it is pretty mysterious and kept in the secret.

HTML
Language which tells browser where show a specific element of the website (links, texts and pictures). Very simple, but vital for any website.

CSS (Cascade Style Sheets)
Some say it is a language, but it is simply an extension to HTML which helps to arrange objects on the website.

PHP/MySQL
Server side programming language which can be embedded into HTML, changing the website into computer application which can use databases and many other features of that language. My personal favourite.

JavaScript
Server side programming language which can be embedded into HTML. When PHP is used more for programming part, JavaScript is usually used for graphic interface. Together with CSS it makes pretty powerful tool for websites 'special effects'

Flash and ActionScript
Software which is mostly used for animation and interaction with the user. Thanks to the small size of Flash files, they are quite often used on websites to create 'special effects', however slowly replaced by JavaScript and HTML5. It is also used for creating Flash games and in this role my personal favourite.
